Portaspresso Rossa PG
I loosened up the Rosco Mini about 0.3mm from my usual espresso setting. That sets me up somewhere in the Moka Pot grind size. Tamp and prep 15g of coffee as usual. Proceed to brew the coffee at ~0.5 bar - guided by the flow. What ends up in the cup is some concentrated 3-oz moka coffee. The taste is more separated, and very strong.

This is an awesome machine. I've bought the Aluminium Rossa PG 1.5 years ago and it is still my favorite. Nothing comes close to this as a portable espresso machine. I also own the Bacchi espresso, which makes really good espresso and I was able to create the same results with the Rossa
How to Use the System
Rosco Preparation. Measure out approximately 20 grams of coffee beans. This is about the same volume of a 50 ml shot glass or a slightly overfilled double shot filter basket. It is also a good idea to experiment with slightly more or less coffee to find out what works for you. You now want to set the grind size on the Rosco.

Rosco Hand Grinder
The Rosco Hand Grinder is an integral part of the Portaspresso Specialty Coffee System, which also includes the Rossa Hand Espresso and Rossa Air Espresso models. The Rossa's filter head screws into the Rosco, and coffee is ground directly into the basket. The grinding process effectively pre-tamps the coffee as it is ground.

Fill inside the unit with water by pouring water into the vent holes on top of the press unit, then fully unwind the spindle. Towel dry the outside of the unit excluding the spindle then put aside. Take the filter head and remove the basket. Clean as necessary to remove any residue, and refit the basket.

Congrats on getting the Portaspresso setup! As for the source of hot water, my experience is that your average kettle is the best solution. Immersion heater can work (you need to find the right size otherwise it's too big), but I reckon there's more electrical risk. I still use one time-to-time and it's more compact than a kettle for travelling.

The question that jumps to mind with any hand grinder is: How many turns? 20g of coffee beans for an espresso shot took 98 turns of the handle - That was set to 0.85mm on the Rosco. 22g of coffee set to a finer 0.8mm took 110 turns. You can grind a double espresso shot in 40-45 seconds without going silly.

The first 20 odd turns are only really wetting the coffee, a pause then acts as a long, low pressure, pre-infusion and you should see the first drip hit the bottom of the cup. Slow and steady turns from that point for the next 10ml and then ramp it up to higher pressure for the next 10ml before tapering off at the end.
